Joure is centrally placed in Friesland and every year the Frisian Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place here. Joure is also famous because of the Douwe Egberts company which put Joure on the map of course. The coffee company started in Joure and is still here today.
Joure is officially not a city, but is actually too big to be called a village. Meanwhile, the city has over 13,000 inhabitants and the city is still growing! The inhabitants of Joure are called Jousters. Joure is also the capital of the municipality The Frisian Lakes.
There are beautiful buildings in Joure, including windmills and churches. Visit for instance, the Hobbe of Baerdt Tsjerke, the St. Matthew Church, or the Baptist Church.
