Take a look
The Workumermeerpolder is a reclaimed land. The Workumer lake was drained in 1877 and is now a low-lying area of -3 meters NAP (Amsterdam Ordnance Datum). This is still clearly reflected in the landscape by the higher and lower pieces of land and the polder dikes. From the N359 you drive straight through it. The peat polder is partly under water in the winter and attracts various ducks and geese. Meadow birds also like to come here. Dandelions and sorrel feel at home there. A nice detail is that the former island 'de Breewar', near Workum, is still clearly visible.
