Take a look

If you plan to hike through the salt marshes of the Noard-Fryslân Bûtendyks nature reserve, be sure to start at the Kweldercentrum Noarderleech Visitor Centre so you make the most of your visit. The centre informs visitors about the nature and history of the coastal landscape of North Friesland. Discover how the salt marshes and outer dike landscape formed. Learn about the natural values of the current terrain and find out about the future plans for the area. The centre holds a wealth of knowledge and stories about the area. The idea is to spend a short time inside so you see more outside.

The Visitor Centre is a base from which to set off on long walks, exciting excursions and memorable mudflat hikes. A place where people can share stories and experiences of the salt marshes and where cyclists biking along the dike can stop and rest. The centre is also an inspiring setting for discussions of the future of the Noard-Fryslân Bûtendyks nature reserve and interesting talks about the history and culture of the landscape on both sides of the dykes. The rangers who maintain the reserve work in the building behind the centre.

Available as a meeting venue
The guiding principle of the Noarderleech Visitor Centre is ‘back to basics’. This unmanned visitor centre on the shore of the Wadden Sea is run by It Fryske Gea, the organisation that protects nature, the natural landscape and cultural heritage in Friesland. As a venue it is surrounded by peace and quiet and a sense of space. This is the perfect place to clear your head, regain perspective and gather inspiration. The area is an important stopover and breeding ground. Vast numbers of migrating birds stop here to feed in this nutrient-rich environment. It is also a safe place for birds to breed. To enjoy some exhilarating fresh air, go for a stroll along the dike or join one of the guided walks.

Waddengoud quality mark
In 2014 the Visitor Centre was awarded the Waddengoud quality mark for its clear connection with the nature of the Wadden Sea region and sustainable use of water, power, building materials.
