The Island
Vlieland
Vlieland is the most westerly of the Frisian Wadden Islands.
From Harlingen you’ll arrive on the island within 1 1/2 hours. You’ll be surprised by the unique landscape on Vlieland, which is characterised by the dune landscape, the expansive beaches and the tidal flats with the enormous diversity of migratory birds that have their breeding and resting places here.

Nature
There’s no shortage of special nature on Vlieland. With the glistening waves of the Wadden Sea surrounding the island, you can enjoy the loveliest dune areas, forests and sandy plains. The Vuurboetsduin is located on the western half of the island, which at 42 metres is the highest point in Friesland. Vlieland is a real bird island and birdwatchers will really enjoy all the different type of birds that call Vlieland home. All of this beauty can be visited by bike, on foot or on horseback because Vlieland is car free.

CULTURE
In the summer, festival lovers can indulge themselves at the famous ‘Horizontoer’, the ten-day cultural festival that takes place annually on the island. Over 100 artists take part in this festival. Prefer soaking up the culture in a different way? Visit the island’s lighthouses or the museum. Vlieland has something for everyone!
