Tresoar: the treasury of Frisian history.

Take a look

We are open Mondays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10:00am to 10:00pm, Fridays from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and Saturdays & Sundays from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Check our website for the most up-to-date information.

Tresoar is the repository of the history of Fryslân. Here you will find countless newspapers and magazines published in Fryslân, hundreds of thousands of books, including copies from the Erasmus library, tens of thousands of photos, films, sound recordings, court reports, notarial deeds, the Atlas of Blaeu, manuscripts and letters from famous Frisians, company archives of Douwe Egberts and archives of the Elfstedenvereniging, CDs from Frisian punk to classical music, the painstaking work of the “Attische Nachten” from 836 AD, the oldest and newest (Frisian) literature, scientific publications, digital files, the civil registry of Fryslân, which may contain information about your Frisian ancestors. And much more!!

Our building is buzzing with activities for young and old: concerts, lectures, exhibitions, educational projects, children's lectures. In addition, it is an ideal space for scientists, genealogists, students and pupils to work on research in peace and quiet. You can walk right in here.

In short: Tresoar is the place to be to discover, research and tell stories physically and/or digitally.

You are most welcome!
