Jellum is a village in the municipality of Leeuwarden, located southwest of the city of Leeuwarden between Boksum and Weidum, along the Hegedyk, which formerly served as the dike of the Middelzee.
Originally, Jellum emerged on a mound, but later it developed into a ribbon village along the Hegedyk. The hamlet of Noordburen, north of Jellum, was integrated into Jellum in the 20th century, but due to the open construction, both parts are still recognizable.
Along the railway, you can still find a stinswier. The stins that stood here, a stone tower, mainly served to protect farmers during hostilities and threats of high water.
