The Vegelinbossen forests were planted on the sand ridge on which the village of Sint Nicolaasga sits. Mayor Johan Vegilin van Claerbergen arranged for the forests to be planted in 1722. Today this is a beautiful place to go walking, cycling and horse riding.    Birds like to shelter under the dense canopy. Great spotted woodpeckers are often seen here in the winter. Other forest birds frequently sighted here are nuthatches, thrushes and robins. And is possible to spot nests built by birds of prey such as buzzards and sparrowhawks.   In 1772, Johan Vegilin left the forests to his grandson Frans van Eysinga, after whom the estate is now named. His descendantslived in the Huize Boschoord stately home and continued to develop the estate. Wilhelmina Oord, a striking chalet-style residence, was built in 1904 according to plans designed by the architect Hendrik Kramer. The building served as a sanatorium and convalescent home for women suffering from severe fatigue.
