Old Town Hall in Dokkum

Dokkum

The bridge that marks the turning point of the Elfstedentocht tour skating event offers the best view of the old town hall in Dokkum, which was built in 1607. It’s as pretty as a picture!

Take a look

Though no one knew exactly when the town charter was granted, Dokkum was recognised as a town from 1298 onwards. But it was a few centuries before the town built a town hall.

Standing at the turning point of the Elfstedentocht tour skating event, on the bridge where, according to the town legend, the giant shrimp known as De Granaet is still chained, the building remains a central feature of the town to this day.
