Until the Reformation, Baard belonged to the Deanery of Winsum within the Roman Catholic Church. The ecclesiastical connection with Winsum has existed for about 800 years. After the Reformation, Baard shared the pastorate with the Reformed Congregation Winsum.

The interior was adapted in the late 1900s without compromising its simple, intimate character. Space has been created for activities beyond just sitting and listening.
