Mole 't Lam is the oldest wheatmill in Friesland and is located in Woudsend, where the miller and his wife grind grains and wheat into artisanal flour products and various bread mixes. Molen 't Lam is operational for milling grains and hulling barley. Our range is available in our store at the mill.

With our eighteenth-century mill, we grind organic grains from the region. From this, we produce various types of flour, baking mixes, flakes, muesli, etc. The flour is sold to bakeries, restaurants, and wholesalers. The mill is open for visits on Saturdays, and by appointment or when the door is open at other times. The store is open on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

History The initial origins of the mill are unclear. A goods list from 1580 mentions a "wijndtmolen" (windmill). This "Inventory of Goods" was drawn up at the termination of the Carmelite monastery in Woudsend, an order of Carmelites that had been established in Woudsend since 1337.

The current mill was built in the second half of the 17th century to replace a post mill. Not much is known about the earliest history of the current mill. An advertisement in the Leeuwarder Courant on June 10, 1840, mentions the sale of "A well-known and significantly renovated and improved rye, wheat, peel, and mustard mill with mill yard and hunting lodge." A unique combination!

In the 17th century, many ships in Woudsend were supplied for long sea voyages. Grits were the ideal food to take on board. Undoubtedly, Mole 't Lam played a significant role in this supply. The same ships, on their return from the Baltic Sea countries, brought mustard seeds to process at the mill into mustard.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the mill is not open to visitors. The mill will regularly be in operation.
