When the new command post in Grou was opened in 1967 by the Minister of the Interior, the tasks of the bunker in the Frisian capital were transferred to the location in Grou.
The reason was that in the event of an attack with a 150 KT nuclear weapon on, for example, Leeuwarden Air Base, the bunker would be knocked-out. The bunker complex in Grou would be much safer at a distance of 20 kilometers from the air base. The bunker is currently in use as a pop bunker.
