Take a look
The Wijnjeterperschar nature reserve is located just north of the Turf Boating Route and south of the old course of the River Boorne. The land here was farmed for centuries. Today this ancient small-scale landscape of wooded banks, heathland and fast-flowing streams is managed as a nature reserve. The area consists of wet and dry heathland, nutrient-poor grassland, small pools created during the last ice age but one and an old meander of the River Boorne. In the nature reserve you can walk a three-kilometre poetry route that leads past fifteen poems by famous poets. Here nature and culture go hand in hand! You can moor near the lock at the neighbouring hamlet of Wijnjeterpverlaat. A palstave axe almost 100,000 years old found in this area is one of the most important exhibits in the archaeological collection at Opsterlân Museum in the town of Gorredijk.
