Take a look
Weidum is situated between Mantgum and Leeuwarden, located along the former seawall of the former Middelzee, called the Hegedyk. The Weidumervaart traverses the village, while the Zwette flows on the east side.
Known as a true "kaats" village, Weidum hosts a kaats field in the heart of the village, where the first kaats tournament of the Kaatsbond takes place annually.
The village originated on a mound, which was later largely excavated. In the 19th and particularly the 20th century, Weidum expanded beyond the mound to become a fully-fledged village.
