The Lycklamahuis in Beetsterzwaag has a memorable story. Therefore, we must go back to 1824. In that year, this house was founded by the widow of Grietman Reinhard baron van Lynden. The same van lynden died in 1819. Back then, this house had only one floor. The major renovation of the house started when the next owner and Grietman, esquire Jan Anne Lycklama à Nijeholt, started to live here. He lived from 1836 until he died in 1891. In 1857 he built an upper floor in the house and had built a coach house. Lycklama continues renovating in and around the house. Gardens were also laid out at the rear and across the house. From 1917, this house finally got the prominent name: Lycklama House.
Owned by the municipality of Opsterland, the lower room of the house is nowadays accessible as a town hall.
