On May 5, downtown Leeuwarden will be dedicated to the Liberation Festival. We will be celebrating freedom with fantastic artists on various stages, special projects on the Freedom Square and fun activities for the little ones at the Children's Festival.
Like every year, the Liberation Festivals on May 5 – the day of freedom – focus on the importance of freedom, democracy and the rule of law. We dance, toast and laugh, but May 5 is also a day to realise that freedom is vulnerable and not self-evident. The fact that thousands of people worldwide are now taking to the streets to speak out against the war confirms the power of solidarity and the importance of an open democratic society.
