Christmas tradition in Joure. On Thursday, December 19, 2024, a special Christmas concert will be performed in the Sint-Mattheüskerk in Joure at 8:00 PM by the National Symphonic Chamber Orchestra, North Netherlands Chamber Choir with various soloists. The whole is led by the Jouster conductor Jan Vermaning.
Christmas Oratorio More than 60 musicians will perform the first three parts of the world-famous Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach. A magical and majestic work! Bach's oratorio tells the story of the birth of the baby Jesus. It is a message full of joy; the long-awaited great savior is born. The performance in Joure will be based on the pursuit of a 'historical' interpretation of articulation, phrasing and tempi.
The Lamb and Panis Angelicus In addition to the first three cantatas by Bach, two very special works will be performed, namely The Lamb – John Tavener and Panis Angelicus – Rebecca Dale.
The Lamb was written in 1982 by the English composer Tavener. It is a setting of music on a poem by William Blake: “The Lamb” from the poetry collection Songs of Innocence and of Experience. It is one of the most famous works by John Tavener.
Panis Angelicus (Bread of the Angels) is a reworking by the British composer Rebecca Dasle of Cesar Franck’s “Panis Angelicus”. It was written for double quartet and piano accompaniment.
The whole, the entrance, lighting and atmosphere will be rustic, warm and magical. You are cordially invited to be present to get into the Christmas spirit.
Location
The Christmas concert will take place in the Sint-Mattheüskerk, Midstraat 110 in Joure. Parking is available at the Sinnebuorren car park. From there it is a 5-minute walk to the church.
Important to know
Pre-sale price is €25 per person. At the box office you pay €30 per person. The concert lasts until 9:30 PM and has no intermission.
