Take a look
'Ik wil niemand tot last zijn' ('I don't want to be a burden to anyone') tells the story of the family of Samuel and Betty Muller from Leeuwarden, a family that was exposed to the racial hatred of the Nazis simply because they were Jewish. This history takes us past the Dutch camps of Westerbork and Vught, but also past the concentration camps of Sachsenhausen and Neuengamme and the extermination camp Sobibor in Poland. And to a large extent during this lecture, the story takes place closer to home in the village of Burdaard, which the occupying forces referred to as a 'terrorist village'. In this part of the story, several resistance fighters appear: the butcher, the baker, the painter, the pastor and the farmers who offered shelter to Jews but... unfortunately, also compatriots who were clearly on the wrong side. In all its brevity, this story offers a mirror of what the human species is capable of.
