Experience a summer full of art and culture during Arcadia 2025. From May 17 to August 24, you can enjoy surprising theater performances, inspiring art projects, unique events, and the construction project of the year: Bouwurk. Whether you praticipate or simply take it all in, this summer in Fryslân is one you don't want to miss.
Bouwurk
In 2025, Bouwurk will rise at the foot of the iconic leaning tower in Leeuwarden: the Oldehove. Bouwurk will be an innovative building made from sustainable materials and creative building blocks. Everyone is invited to help build and contribute. Once completed, it will serve as a center for anyone looking fot a place to meet, marvel, and create. It will be built with the same joy you felt as a child, full of curiosity and fun, crafting a tower out of whatever you could find.
It will be a structure filled with new ideas and firsts. With walls partially made form brichs crafted from Frisian soil. With soup made from sustainable crops grown in our own garden, and with insulated walls made form locally sourced sheep wool. With Bouwurk, we show that together, we cna achieve the unimaginable. That, as humans, we are capable of tremendous things if we are willing to work together. Even when society is in turmoil.
Help build Arcadia 2025
Every three years, Arcadia hosts a grand hundred-day cultural program in Fryslân. During this event, young and old come together to enjoy impressive art and cultural projects, and we work toward a province we can proudly pass on to future generations. You might remember us as the European Capital of Culture in 2018, when the giants of Royal de Luxe paraded through the streets. Or from Arcadia 2022, with the walking forest.
From May 7 to August 24, 2025, another explosion of creativity is on the agenda. We invite everyone to join in building and creating. Think of Bouwurk, where with many hands we will complete the iconic leaning tower, the Oldehove, transforming it into a ocmmunity house for everyone. Toghether we show that we are capable of great things when we unite our strengths.
