Koepelbos

Oldeberkoop

South of Oldeberkoop is the Koepelbosch, the largest park forest in the immediate area. This forest was laid out around 1825 by order of grietman mr J.A. Willinge; it is currently owned by the Forestry Commission.

Take a look

Several footpaths have been created in the park forest, running along the pond, for example. Gnarled oaks and stately beeches mark the routes.

Deer camp
At the entrance to the forest is a Deer Camp, where fallow deer, goats and fowl roam. Children can play on the playground equipment there. And there is a pancake farm nearby!

Nature playground
The new nature playground in the Koepelbos is a great place to play with water, sand and mud. Using the pump, children can run water through the wooden beams, which drain into the pond. Getting dirty in the play forest is a must!

Flower meadow
A colourful highlight in this forest, is the flower meadow behind the restaurant. Many insects fly on flowers, including bees, bumblebees and butterflies, which are also good to watch up close. Right behind the flower meadow is a pretty little island. In sunny and windless weather, the trees reflect in the surface of the water and you can take beautiful photos here.

The Heron forest
The Koepelbosch was refurbished several years ago. In the process, an attempt was made to preserve the original style as much as possible. The rear part of the forest, the Reigerbos, has a somewhat more natural character. From there, you have a beautiful view over the stream valley of the small river Lende, called De Batten.

The Batten
The Batten is a beautiful part of the Lende's elongated stream valley landscape. This Forestry Commission area is accessible almost the whole year round, except from 1 March to 1 July. This marshy, flower-rich grassland is home to holpipe, marsh fritillary and spotted orchid, among others. The otter feels at home here, and is regularly spotted near Battenbrug.
