Take a look

In Woudsend stands the over 300-year-old sawmill De Jager. The mill is still in operation, sawing logs into planks when there is sufficient wind. The planks are either sold or used in various applications, such as furniture. The mill is open to visitors every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Come and step back 300 years in time!

Woudsend was known for its many shipyards. Sawmill De Jager was built in 1719. Due to the thriving economy, another sawmill named De Hoop was later constructed in Woudsend, around 1915. However, it was dismantled around 1915. De Jager operated professionally until the 1960s. After a period of neglect, the mill was purchased and restored by the Zon en Vrijheid foundation in 1975. Since then, the mill has been kept in operation by volunteer millers.
