Take a look

The Het Zwin (in Frisian It Swin) nature reserve in Gaasterland lies between Lake Fluessen and Lake Slotermeer, two of the larger Frisian lakes. The reserve has its own polder lake.

Here grassland and reed beds provide habitat for rare marshland species and water birds. The area attracts large numbers of ducks and geese as well as many birds such as common snipe, Eurasian bitterns and bearded reedlings. In the spring a variety of reed-dwelling birds nest in the reed beds around the lake. Why not stop at the bird-watching hide during a walk around the lake? There is always something special to see. Tip: The hiking trail in the village of Elahuizen also leads to the Het Zwin nature reserve.
