Kuiertocht Witmarsum
On the outskirts of Witmarsum lies the Flietsterbosk, a green surprise in this open landscape. The route passes straight through it. Along the way, you'll pass by the church where the church reformer Menno Simons laid the foundation for the Mennonite doctrine. Through the open fields, you'll return to the charming village of Witmarsum.
A "kuiertocht" is a short walking route. So, it probably won't surprise you that in Frisian, "wandelen" translates to "kuierje". You can easily combine a leisurely stroll with an activity in the area, or choose to embark on another leisurely stroll. An overview of all leisurely strolls can be found here.

Filenspolder Nature Reserve
The Filenspolder nature reserve is just south of the village of Witmarsum. This is an area that attracts large numbers of meadow birds. And bird counts indicate that the populations are increasing.
Flietsterbosk Forest
Flietsterbosk is a small but varied recreational forest full of hawthorn, willow, beech, poplar and alder trees. This delightful woodland near the village of Witmarsum attracts a wide variety of birdlife, small mammals, butterflies and insects.
Menno Simons Monument
Even buiten Witmarsum, aan Het Fliet, staat het Menno Simons-monument. Menno Simons werd in 1496 geboren in Witmarsum en werd nadat hij tot priester werd gewijd aangesteld in Pingjum en Witmarsum.
Doopsgezinde kerk Witmarsum
Het kerkgebouw in Witmarsum is in 1961 gebouwd, Het is een eenvoudig gebouw, maar de geschiedenis maakt de plek bijzonder. Menno Simons, vaak Nederlands enige kerkhervormer genoemd, werd geboren in Witmarsum.
