Ferry-hiking route Langweerder Wielen
A little strange but this hike follows the cycling network junctions. This makes the route nicer than the standard walking route.
Simple navigation

Enjoy a sizeable hiking trip around the waters of the Langweerder Wielen, relying on two ferries and a number of bridges to get you across the water.
Tourist attraction
Langweer really attracts tourists thanks to its beautiful old buildings and outdoor cafés under the lime trees in the centre. This is the perfect water sports destination, centrally located in Friesland, but life on dry land is just as good here. You will park on Oasingaleane, named after Syts van Osinga, ‘grietman’ or mayor of the former municipality of Doniawerstal. He left us a beautiful stately home in the village.

To the east of Langweer, you’ll find the small village of Boornzwaag, which is actually attached to Langweer. Walking from Langweer to Boornzwaag, you’ll pass the beautiful Sweachmer Windmill. Boornzwaag must have been larger in days gone by, but part of the village was washed away by the waters of the Langweerder Wielen.
Shipwreck
In Boornzwaag, take the ferry to the other side of the water, where you’ll find yourself on the edge of the so-called Put van Nederhorst, a sand excavation where diving is possible: a reasonably deep underwater course has been constructed, including a shipwreck for diving fun. Walk along the excavated pit towards the main A7 road, which you’ll cross under twice to get to the other side.
Mûzekamp and Pontdyk
Walking between the meadows, you will now cross farmlands with long stretched out fields, known as the Mûzekamp. On your right hand is the Gravepoeltje pond between the woodlands. It’s time to cross over Fammensrakken water and continue to the end of the road, where you turn left. You are now on the Pontdyk and it won’t be long before you encounter the large ferry to take you across the Langwarder Feart.
Back to the village
Continue your route over the Pontdyk, and from the bridge over the Jaansleat, you’ll be able to see the village of Langweer rising up again behind the trees. Just a few kilometres more and you’ll be able to relax in one of the lovely cafés or restaurants of Langweer.
Is walking not your thing? This route can also be enjoyed by bike or on rollerblades.
