Tour Gaastmeer | SUP and Canoe Route

Take a round trip on your SUP board from the beautiful Gaastmeer. Gaastmeer is a friendly water sports village, beautifully situated on the Frisian lakes. Paddle across two lakes, along a long waterway, and through the village with charming holiday homes by the water. Be sure to make a stop at d’Ald Herberch: a fantastic terrace by the water near the high white bridge in Gaastmeer.

On this route, passing boats may create some waves. It's preferable to paddle in the evening when it's calmer or during the daytime in the fall.

Renting a boat in Friesland
Don't have your own SUP, canoe, or boat? No problem! In Friesland, you can rent boats at many different locations.

Duration of the route
This route is 3.8 kilometers long. As a beginner, you paddle at about 3 kilometers per hour, so you'll spend a little over an hour on this round.

Bridges in Friesland
With a SUP or canoe, you can navigate almost anywhere. If there's an issue with a bridge or culvert, just step off and walk around. For more information about bridges and such, check the Watersport App from Provinsje Fryslân. However, it's not necessary for this route.

Keep it clean on the water!
Of course, never litter in nature. If you come across litter on the water, pick it up on your board or in your canoe. The environment will thank you!

Waterway information
The majority of the route is a waterway in category DM, suitable for boats with a draft of 1.3 meters and a height of 2.3 meters. This route can also be completed with an (electric) sloop. The part over the Yntemasleat is even suitable for boats with a draft of up to 1.9 meters. Note for stand-up paddlers or canoeists: you might encounter quite large boats here!
