Discover the flora and fauna
The Nannewiid is a lake located between Joure and Heerenveen, near the village of Oudehaske. This natural area is managed by Staatsbosbeheer and is a beautiful place for canoeing, paddleboarding, or hiking. The lake's water is surrounded by reed beds and reed fields. Swimming is possible at the beach on the south side of the village of Oudehaske. During the walk, you can spot various bird species such as the marsh harrier, grasshopper warbler, and golden oriole. You'll come across an observation platform, a lovely spot to explore nature with binoculars.

Turfroute
Next to the Nannewiid, there is another small lake named Lytse Wiid. Both lakes were formed through peat extraction and are connected by a waterway called 'Feanskieding,' which in Frisian means peat separation. This waterway was historically used for transporting peat. The Feanskieding is directly linked to the well-known water route called the Turfroute.
