Mummies in Friesland
Park your car at the parking lot in Wiuwert; just behind it lies the hidden gem of the Saint Nicholas Church. It's arguably the most sensational church in Friesland because in its cellar, you can view real mummies!
Labadists
These are the bodies of former residents of this village who passed away around 1600 and miraculously remained preserved. The mummies are possibly followers of Jean de Labadie, whose religious sect was established in Wiuwert.

The Walta Family
The noble Walta family also lived in this area. The Waltas were large landowners and influential dignitaries who ruled over their domain and lived in luxury farmhouses - also known as states or zathes. Their estate consisted of five farms in Britswert and six in Wiuwert.
Onwards to the Saint George's Church.
Once you've finished exploring the church, continue on to the neighboring village of Britswert. You'll spot the tower of Saint George's Church in the distance, so getting lost is impossible. On the left side of the Kleasterdyk, you'll pass a farmhouse named Aylvazathe, a relic from the time of the Waltas.
Enjoy some food and drinks.
In Britswert, you can have coffee or lunch at Farsk in a beautifully renovated farmhouse with a botanical shed. Prefer a picnic? First, grab some delicious local products at Greidelân zuivel on the Froonackerdyk. They make everything here from their own farm! Then stroll through 'de buorren' of the village of Britswert. And as you leave the village, turn left before the bridge towards Swarte Mole.
Walking through the meadow.
Follow the concrete path along the Franekervaart until the second bridge on your right, but don't cross the bridge. Turn left before the bridge and step over the fence. The path continues here on unpaved terrain. Follow the dike along the Bozumervaart towards the hamlet of Swaenwert, where you walk around to the left.
Organic farming.
The land next to the path is managed organically, and across the way is a wetland area that attracts many birds in spring. A delightful place to walk in the Frisian Greidhoeke! And to think that all this used to be lakes, which were all drained over the years. Continue walking along the concrete path that will take you back to Wiuwert.
Accessibility.
This route partly goes through the meadow. You'll also have to climb over gates, cattle grids, and crawl under electric wires. So, it's not a suitable route for people with dogs or strollers or if you have mobility issues.

Sint Joriskerk Britswert
Hoewel er in de kerk van Britswert geen mummies te zien zijn, is het aardig dit 12e eeuwse godshuis - opgetrokken uit gele Friese moppen - te bezoeken.
