The forest was planted by Douwe Egberts in the late 40s and is also called the 'match forest', because the trees could serve as matchwood.
On the Bosweg you will find a war monument in memory of the drop zone during the Second World War. In the winter of 1944/1945, the Allies regularly dropped weapons here for the benefit of the resistance in Friesland.
