The name refers to the two pedestrian and bike ferries which are part of this cycling trip around the Frisian Lakes region, and comes from the type of boat traditionally used to ferry people back and forth. These two ferry boats certainly give the trip a very special touch. If you’re looking to discover and experience the beautiful landscape of Southwest Friesland by bike, then this ‘Oersetters’ cycling route offers no end of opportunities. From cycling through the very diverse watery landscape of Southwest Friesland, you will suddenly find yourself in a village or a historic Frisian city, before continuing on your way past the wide-open panoramic fields of this Frisian land. The ‘Oersetters’ really is a voyage of discovery!

There is so much to see, and various picnic benches all along the route, though of course you can always pop into one of the many cafés and restaurants, some of them on the waterside. You can also charge your electric bike at various points along the route.

Broerekerk (church)

The Broerekerk was built in the 13th century as a monastery church of the Friars Minor. The monastery was abandoned and demolished in 1580. The three-aisled church without a tower is a ruin as a result of a fire that took place on 8 May 1980.

Grote Kerk Allingawier

Op de terp in de dorpskern van Allingawier stond al voor het jaar 1000 een kapel en later een tufstenen kerk. In 1634 verrees er een bakstenen zaalkerk met zadeldaktoren. Rond 1785 is hij tot het huidige formaat ingekort en voorzien van een nieuw koor.
