Historical and cultural cycling tour through the former municipality of Menaldumadeel

This cycling route is fully signposted with the ‘Cultuurhistorische Fietsroute Menaldumadeel’ logo.
Along the way you will come across information panels that explain the history of the region. The route starts and ends at Leeuwarden railway station. You set off from the capital of Friesland and cycle through the villages of Marsum, Ingelum, Bitgum, Berltsum, Wier, Slappeterp, Menaam, Dronrijp and Ritsumasyl.

Oldehove
The Oldehove has been standing since 1529 and is leans even more than the Tower of Pisa! You can admire it from the inside as well as outside. The elevator, built in 2011, takes you to the first floor, and from there you will have to conquer the spiral staircase to the roof.

Lauta state
In het dorpje Wier bouwde de familie Lauta eerst een stins, die enkele eeuwen daarna met een luxe state werd uitgebreid. Woedende dorpsbewoners staken de state in brand, alleen de contouren van het terrein zijn nog te zien.

In Dronrijp, de geboorte stad van Eise Eisinga, staat een borstbeeld tegenover zijn geboortehuis. Hij heeft in Dronrijp op de lagere school gezten en is getrouwd in de Salviuskerk in Dronrijp.

Bij een toeristisch overstappunt (TOP) kun je je auto parkeren, om van hieruit heerlijk te gaan fietsen, wandelen of varen in een landelijke omgeving.
