The village of Terherne (which means ‘on the corner’) lies along the Sneekermeer. The village is surrounded by water and is often called the island village. It was only in 1908 that a connection to the land was established and the residents could come into contact with the rest of Friesland. Agriculture, shipping and fishing have always been the basis for this village. Terherne is perhaps one of the most popular recreational locations in Friesland.
