Take a look
On summer days, Spokeplas or Spoekeplas Lake near the village of Noordwolde is a favourite spot for sun worshippers of all ages. The sandy beach next to the lake is a lovely place to sunbathe. The groundwater that flows into the lake is filtered by layers of sand, so the water quality is generally good for swimming. At the edge of the lake there is a small island created for children to play on. The water there is shallow enough to wade to the island. The lake is surrounded and sheltered by Spokedam forest, a small area of woodland with hiking trails. The beach faces the sun and is almost wind-free. Children large and small can have great fun splashing around and playing in the water. The lake is a wonderful spot for a picnic, so be sure to bring your picnic basket and blanket!
- The car park in Elsweg road (opposite the Heanestede camping site) is just a short walk (about 100 metres) from the lake.
- Dogs are not allowed in the lake area. They are allowed outside of the lake area but must be kept on a leash. There is an area where dogs can be let off the leash in the woodland on the other side of Elsweg road.
- On hot summer days the refreshment kiosk sells ice cream and cold drinks!
